The kangaroo is known as one of the most iconic of all Australian fauna. They are the largest of all the marsupials on earth, with the red kangaroo standing more than 1.5m tall and weighing over 80kg. Their breathtaking magnificence is absolutely captivating as one of these majestic creatures effortlessly glide over the Australian grasslands, the muscles in their back legs rippling with each powerful kick. To me, the kangaroo represents the essence of Australia - freedom, the beauty of the red-and-brown country in which we live, resilience, and mateship as it is common to see groups bounding off together across the plains. This piece is dedicated to my grandad, Preston Walker, who travelled Australia as a missionary to the Indigenous communities. The love he had for these people, and for this country, was a legacy that I will always remember.
