The koala is known as one of the most iconic of all Australian fauna. Closely related to the kangaroo and wombat as a member of the marsupial family, little ones start life as a 'joey' in their mother's pouch for around six months before venturing out to investigate the outside world from the safety of their mother's backs. These gorgeous little creatures are easy to fall in love with, with their soft fur, large fluffy ears and enormous brown eyes. Particularly endearing to my family is the similar characteristics this adorable mammal shares with my mother - Jo-Anne. Known belovedly as 'Joey', a little grey bob that has become more and more koala-like over the years, enormous brown eyes that seem to see right through to your very soul, and the incredible ability to be able to sleep for hours on end, both my mother and this beautiful little creature share unique and adorable qualities that are difficult not to love.
