This is a large painting. 4ft by 6ft. I had just finished painting an enormous mural on Rainier Avenue in Seattle, 100 ft by 30 ft , so when I painted the face of the moon she didn't seem large at all. Friends in Seattle had a garden with incredible red poppies. The color was so deep and rich it felt as if you could lose yourself in them. When the sun was setting and the moon was rising over Mt Rainer the mountain and the moon often turned pink reflecting the colors in the sky... if you were standing among the poppies it seemed as if the color had washed into the sky. You could hear owls in the woods...
