Once I had the privilege to witness sea turtles hatching under the moon. Baby turtles follow the moon to the sea. Because of light pollution the baby turtles often get confused and make for the highway instead where they are crushed by traffic. Kind volunteers had waited for weeks, carefully guarding the eggs. When the babies began to emerge under the moonlight, the little ones raced to the sea guided by the flashlight beams of the joyful volunteers. This painting is a gentle reminder that the Ocean and the life it contains are part of the miracle of our beautiful planet, and our stewardship of the environment is an act of reverence.
Painted on a triple primed canvas with Rublev hand ground oils- the palette for this painting contained a selection of Rublev whites as well as ground gem stones: Lapis lazuli, malachite, amazonite and sleeping beauty turquoise.
Other pigments include; American pink pipestone, violet hematite, purple ocher, Italian Verona green earth, Armenian gold ocher, and French red ocher.
" Ocean's Edge" has been varnished with Gamblin Conservar Satin Varnish. The painting was
completed March of 2025 and varnished in April 2025.
