This was my very first stone sculpture so I wanted to sculpt the female form, which is my favorite subject matter. Since I have not have had any formal training in stone carving, it was a journey of lots of changes and unexpected surprises. Even though it was not technically planned, the lines and shapes on the piece seem to all fit together. To finish the sculpture, I did a light wash of concrete stain and sanded away areas to make it look more aged.
The years of creating with clay and the fact that I am comfortable using tools made this transition to a stone much easier than expected. I am really excited to see what the future holds for me in this new medium.
