Painting, oil on canvas.
“Convergence,” water is from where all life comes. A standing woman with arms outstretched in a welcoming gesture seeks to generate a sense of welcoming, friendliness, joy and inclusion acknowledging the Willamette and the "Across the Bridge Community," site of the 1940's community of first black residents in Eugene.
She stands in a wide field of camas, a plant representing the Kalapuya peoples of Willamette Valley. She wears a long colorful dress. Behind her are two cascades of swirling ribbons of water, one right and one left, representing the Willamette and McKenzie rivers. The hummingbirds in the background represent migration, ferocity, playfulness and beauty. One is adorned with a headdress, a nod to Huitzilopochtli, the Mexican sun god.
