This 12” x 12” mixed media collage ,is a vibrant celebration of cross-border cultural exchange illustrating the power of women coming together. At the heart of the piece are two mermaids, derived from the currency of Mexico and the U.S., surrounded by elements like butterflies, birds, fine gold tangled wire, that weave through the collage, emphasizing themes of nature, economy, and differences in cultures. The text phrases "Sisters Help Our Ocean," "Creating Trust," and "Working Through tough times" was particularly meaningful, symbolizing our shared struggles and aspirations. Frida Kahlo on the 500 peso and Susan B. Anthony, turning the 2 into mermaids, water being their common home (our ocean), we are all in this together. If we loose our ocean habitat, we loose our humanity, we loose everything. I hope "Sisters of the Ocean: Bridging Cultures" inspires you as much as it inspired me to create it.
