The Stranger is a Seattle bi-weekly newspaper covering Seattle news, politic and all things art. In the wake of the Covid 19 pandemic, the print edition was suspended. Stranger Skeins was constructed using the last edition of the paper. In weaving or knitting, a skein is often an intermediate state that leads to another finished work (a sweater, a tapestry). In this case, the skein is the final work, locked in a suspended form questioning the future of the printed word. In the decade that I have worked with newspapers, I have watched this once abundant material turn into an oddity, like a roll of film. The spinning wheel on which I work also seems like the vestige of another era.
