Rouage is part of the Geometric Assemblage Series. It is an exploration of the foundations of classical beauty using the Fibonacci sequence or Golden Ratio. This formula is often expressed in nature in the form of a Nautilus shell, a graceful curve expanding ever outward. I chose instead to focus the sequence inward. Working with a single square substrate, I cut a new square from its center using the Golden Ratio (1.618), and repeated this process multiple times until I had eight frames and a final square. Like a Ukranian doll, each element nested within its larger counterpart. Subsequently, each of the pieces was wrapped in spun newspaper and arrayed on a frame. Because beauty should break rules, I added an additional square to the piece.
This piece was made using The Courrier International.
