Message16x16x2 Encaustic on Cradled Wood Panel. My son, a pilot, took me for a ride in a small private plane. I found the view from the air was so interesting. Familiar but at the same time abstract. It inspired me to begin my ‘View from Above’ series. The subject of each painting is inspired by my travels. The style of these paintings are influenced by a trip I took to see the works of the famous glass artist, Dale Chihuly, at the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, Canada. Especially inspiring were his Macchia with their smooth, sometimes glowing surfaces, mottled colors and contrasting lip wrap. This piece was inspired by a recent trip to Alaska.
