Stamp on inside provides name of artist and location - Tltempan, San Pablo Apetatitlan, Tlaxcala, located in central Mexico. According to the Museo Nacional de la mascara, Carlos Reyes Acoltzi produced religious figure masks during the 1940s. The stamp on this piece appears to be 1948 (or 49). His grandson Pedro Amador Reyes Juarez, continues this tradition of mask creation, especially for the carnival celebrations of Lent and Holy Week.
