"Magnificat," an engraving by Jan Sadeler, after Maarten de Vos, published by Claesz Jans Visscher (1587-1652). Using the muscial setting of the "Magnificat" by the Flemish composer Cornelis Verdonck (1563-1625), the piece represents one of the earliest artistic illustrations of music engraving. The score includes alto and base parts on left tablet, and soprano and tenor on right tablet. Two angels singing are accompanied by our angels playing the violin, flute, cornetto. Visscher published several illustrated bibles during the 17th century, the most important beingTheatrum Biblicum.
