Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, by General Lew Wallace, was published by Harper & Brothers on November 12, 1880. The book was adapted for stage by William Young, and produced by Marc Klaw and Abraham Erlanger. The play opened at the Broadway Theater in New York City on November 29, 1899. This souvenir book is from that production, staged by Ben Teal; music by Edgar Stillman Kelley; and illustrations from flash photographs by Joseph Byron and Hall's Studio.
