Composition is of a view I enjoyed from a brief stay at the Vashon Artist Residency in 2021. The collage under layer is made up from a small folio of Japanese sample papers I'd picked up in Berkeley, California 30 years ago. We were looking for some handmade paper to use for our wedding invitations. I was so struck by the beauty of papers that I purchased a folio of 30 different 4 x 6 paper samples. They seemed like the perfect foundation for this piece; I loved the simplicity of the composition so much that I wanted to keep the paint very thin and neutral to let the varied texture and subtle colorations of the papers come through. One of my personal favorites of this body of work.
