I revisited a piece that I had made as an early experiment in digital art and created some new variants around two years later. The original 'Flight Dance' used the death of a Crassuala 'Jade' plant - a sign of great ill fortune - as a starting point. The leaves had fallen and turned into something between metal and stone. They fascinated me and I created one of my first larger scale compositions using vectorised images made from them. In summer 2025 I was given a new Jade plant which was thriving but from time to time threw off some lower leaves. I was transfixed by the almost exact similarity of the leaves and used them for the same process in this work. Something here resonates about re-visiting the same starting point, a plant loaded with meanings of good and ill fortune, and of making something anew?
