“Sapphire Mountain Strata” is part of my ongoing series “Nature Closeup”, where I explore the hidden patterns of earth and water through extreme magnification. By enlarging micro-images of natural formations over 1000%, I uncover abstracted landscapes that blend geological rhythm with emotional resonance.
This diptych composition is drawn in layered chalk pastels—gestural scribbles of cobalt and sapphire blues, velvet blacks, and smudged white create a richly textured surface. The piece invites viewers to feel the atmosphere of mountain strata and flowing water, distilled into soulful, ethereal form.
Designed as a continuous drawing across two panels, Sapphire Mountain Strata may be displayed side by side or independently. Subtle tonal variations in the blue spectrum and dynamic mark-making bring visual vibration and movement to the work.
Whether mounted together or apart, the piece adds a striking and sophisticated presence to any space—an elegant fusion of nature and abstraction.
