This painting is part of a recent series, where I focused on creating portraits of animals and birds. I envisioned the animals placed in a sort of classical portrait setting with a distant landscape. These works also include some kind of device that challenges the traditional notion of pictorial depth, such as the victorian motif here, which also makes the portrait stand out even more.
Foxes have long fascinated humans and often appear in mythology, fables, and stories around the world. In Japanese folklore, foxes, or "kitsune," are seen as intelligent beings with magical abilities. They are often portrayed as guardians, friends, or even powerful shape-shifters. In Western fables, foxes are frequently depicted as cunning and clever characters, embodying both trickery and wisdom. Scientifically, foxes are known for their adaptability and survival skills, thriving in diverse environments from forests to urban areas. Their nocturnal lifestyle and keen hunting instincts contribute to their mysterious appeal.
