This abstract is an interpretation of a remnant cut from my paint palette. The remnant is the starting point for the intuitive process that follows. I’m hard-wired not to waste any of my materials, so I’ve found this to be a great way to use my pre-mixed paints.
This piece looks nothing like the original remnant composition. The colors were so saturated and chaotic that I decided to develop some harmony and a focal area by adding white paint. At first, I sprayed it on in thin layers, then started scraping it on thick in some areas and glazing in others. I’m sure I pressed some plastic into it at one point so I could let it dry and lift up some surprise textures. It’s framed in black to create a strong contrast with the white surface.
