Lynda Frese explores environmental themes with her photography, printmaking, and egg tempera painting. She studied at UC Davis, and is a professor emerita at UL Lafayette, where she taught for 30 years. Her surreal artwork features sentient forests and mythic UFOs as potent symbols for reflection. Travel is an integral part of her art practice. Her photography includes Costa Rica jungles, forests of the Pacific Northwest, and lush sub-tropical Louisiana. She discovered egg tempera painting working in Italy. Using powdered pigments collected from a variety of earth sites, and mixing them with egg yolks from local farms, she paints translucent layers of color over photo collages. Her artwork has been included in numerous national and international exhibitions and is represented in many private and public museum collections. The monograph “Lynda Frese: Holy Memories & Earthly Delights”, published in 2018 by University of Louisiana Press, surveyed 40 years of the artist’s work. Many of her engravings and collage-paintings were featured in the 2025 solo exhibition “Far-Out” at the Acadiana Center for the Arts in Lafayette.
