Painting the traditional west alive today North of the boarder.
MessageThat’ll Do captures the quiet conclusion of a long day’s work. After bringing a herd in from the range for weaning, the cowboys have held the cows and calves together until every pair has had a chance to mother up. With the herd settled and the work complete, someone finally says the words every crew is waiting to hear: “That’ll do.” It’s a simple phrase that marks the end of a demanding day and the satisfaction of a job well done.
Inspired by cowboy Caleb Knoll at the Chapperon Division of Douglas Lake Ranch in British Columbia’s Nicola Valley, this painting honours the patience, timing, and good stockmanship behind successful cattle work. Rather than focusing on the excitement of the gather, it celebrates the quieter moments that define ranch life—moments of responsibility, stewardship, and the quiet fulfillment that comes from caring well for both the land and the livestock entrusted to you.
