This work was deaccessioned in 2022. The tiles used for the mosaic were designed for indoor use, and aged poorly after being exposed to Colorado's weather. Tiles that could be stabilized were cleaned and added to the City of Thornton Historic Archives.
"A Contemplation on Peace" by Kemba Opio stands at the site of the "Peace Wall", continuing the theme of the community coming together to express what peace means to Thornton.
The "Peace Wall" was a mosaic of ceramic tiles painted by children, residents, and City of Thornton staff in response to 9/11. The wall served as a reminder to everyone who visited it that peace begins at home.
This "Peace Wall" was funded in part by a grant from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).
