The statue was jointly funded by an SCFD grant, a donation from the Thornton Development Authority, and fundraising completed by the Thornton Women’s Club.
The sculpture honors former Thornton Women's Club member Esther Jewell on the Thornton Women's Club 40th anniversary, as well as all women concerned with the development and growth of Thornton.
