This carousel was purchased from the former Bigg's Hypermarket store in the old Thornton Town Center. The carousel was part of the Bigg’s indoor playground and arcade area called "Time Out" from 1989 until the closing of the store in 2004.
The carousel was made by D.H. Morgan Mfg. Inc. of Scotts Valley California, and is model #C30.
The carousel is 30' in diameter, and has two rows of animal figures made of fiberglass.
The carousel debuted at its current location in Carpenter Park in 2013, and is housed in a building designed by Denver-based Boss Architecture. The carousel is operated by the Thornton Lions Club and runs seasonally.
This information is included in Artwork Archive as a courtesy to anyone who might be curious about the carousel. This piece is not public art, did not go through the public art process, and the carousel is neither run nor maintained by Thornton Arts and Culture or public art staff.
