Pattern based on Humayun’s Tomb
Gilded Earth is a smaller yet deeply contemplative work created in 2025. Its geometric structure is based on patterns from Humayun’s Tomb, documented within David Wade’s extensive research on geometric designs across cultures and historical periods.
Rooted in earthy tones, the painting reflects the material world with all its entanglements, imperfections, and distress. Subtle distressing within the surface evokes the weight of earthly existence, while luminous elements suggest a movement toward transcendence.
As with much of Cader’s geometric practice, the work embodies a Sufi-inspired journey—from the mundane toward illumination. Islamic geometry here becomes a spiritual language, guiding the viewer from the density of earthly experience into light, harmony, and inner awakening.
