This composition is based on a star-and-cross motif formed through fourfold symmetry, a
foundational grid in Islamic geometric design. Inspired by the small oratory of Yusuf I in the
Alhambra, it features eight-pointed stars framed by squares in a continuous interlocking field.
Here, the structure is mapped onto a circular ground, highlighting the circle as the source from
which all form unfolds, uniting mathematics, architecture, and spiritual order. The geometry is
revealed only in a few areas, while underlying circular elements emerge subtly to the surface.
This distressed, washed-out effect emphasises the natural conflicts of the soul, the trials of
time, and the elements of geometry in the search for beauty and harmony within.
