Full title: "Melle Alicia, Swimwear by Patou, 1928". Iconic work considered a partnership between George and his partner Horst. Still stunning almost a century after it was taken and in excellent condition.
Jean Patou is considered the first real designer of women’s sportswear. He combined austere silhouettes with comfortable cuts. He created his clothing for the healthy and active women of the 1920s. He was responsible for the popularity of knitted wool jersey swimsuits and simple cardigans. Many of his clothes also bore his monogram, years before that kind of fashion branding became popular.
This 8"x10" print is a genuine vintage photogravure, printed in 1929 and has the fantastic warmth and tonal range of a platinum print. Archivally mounted on 100% acid-free board, matted to 11" x 14" and in a vintage carved ivory wooden frame.
