Smouldering, intense portrait of the Italian genius, in his Milan studio in 1985. Gianni Versace (1946–1997) was an iconic Italian fashion designer who founded his eponymous luxury brand in 1978. Born in Reggio Calabria, Italy, he grew up surrounded by his mother’s dressmaking business, which inspired his passion for design. After moving to Milan in 1972, he worked for top fashion houses before launching his own label, quickly gaining fame for bold, glamorous designs that blended classical motifs with vibrant colors and daring sensuality. Versace revolutionized fashion with his innovative use of materials, celebrity collaborations, and provocative runway shows. His brand expanded into fragrances, accessories, and home décor, becoming a global empire. Tragically, his life was cut short when he was murdered outside his Miami Beach mansion in 1997. His sister, Donatella Versace, took over the brand, continuing his legacy. Gianni Versace remains a symbol of opulence and creativity, remembered as one of fashion’s most influential visionaries.
