Fantastic portrait of an impossibly neat, dark haired, sunglasses-less Karl Lagerfeld "relaxing" in 1983. Lagerfeld (1933-2019) was an iconic German fashion designer, artist, and photographer, best known for his long-term association with Chanel. Born in Hamburg, he moved to Paris and gained recognition by winning a design competition in 1954. He worked with various fashion houses, including Balmain, Patou, and ChloƩ, before revitalizing Chanel in 1983 as its creative director. Known for his distinctive white hair, black sunglasses, and high-collared shirts, Lagerfeld was a prolific creator who left a lasting impact on the fashion world through his innovative designs and sharp wit. His legacy continues to influence contemporary fashion.
This is a vintage photogravure (neg 1983, print 1985), archivally matted to 16"x20" and in a vintage heavy gold wooden frame.
