I'm not sure I can describe the joy when I saw this Great Blue Heron and was successful taking a few pictures. My experience with these birds has been to get only the fuzziest of photos when I've tried. I walked very slowing, stopping frequently down the dirty path that paralleled the stream until I finally had a good angle on him. I thought for sure he would fly off before I succeeded, so I took several photos along the way. Since he was on the far side of the waterfall the earlier shots were not terribly useful for painting, but I took them just for insurance to get some focused shot of this magnificent bird. I was so excited I started to draw and then painting him the very next day.
