Plate, 9 inches diameter. Maker unknown. This border-only pattern features alternating nautical-themed Classical scenes connected by a thin geometric band. The first scene is a seashell-shaped cartouche containing two crisscrossed sea monsters in front of a trident and framed by leafy branches. The second scene consists of a rectangular picture frame cartouche containing a group of merpeople and two sea-horses resting on the ground, framed by a scroll. A geometric pattern with a basic Greek key design encircles the outside rim of the plate. This pattern is identical to one seen on the "Kapal-Apie" pattern by William V. & Thomas Adams. It is referenced without a picture in FurnissWagner1999, p. 84. The same pattern was produced as "Marine" by the later firm of W. Adams & Co., as seen in FurnissWagner1999, p. 91.
