Sugar bowl, black transfer. Maker is Wallis Gimson & Co. This simple pattern features sprays of flowers and foliage on both sides. Daisies and clover arc over one side and roses and clover arc over the other. The lid is covered with prunus blossoms and clover. The handles on both the lid and the body sport a stylized floral design with radial symmetry.
Gimson specialized in making ware in a series such as ‘The World’ and ‘Achievements of Notable Victorians.’ In February the partnership between Joseph Gimson Jr. and Thomas Wallis Gimson was dissolved and Thomas W. Gimson continued on his own account. At the time of bankruptcy of the business it was Thomas Wallis Gimson who was trading as Wallis Gimson & Co.
