Plate, 8.125 inches diameter. Red transfer. Printed maker's mark for Wallis Gimson & Co. The registry diamond dates the pattern registration to 13 June 1883. This is a carry-over of the date that Pratt & Simpson registered the pattern, because Wallis Gimson & Co. took over the Lane Delph Pottery in Fenton from Pratt & Simpson in 1884. In Latin, "Floris Ligna" translates to "flower trees." This pattern consists of a crazy quilt of geometric shapes infilled with geometric patterns, flowers, and animals, including a bat flying under the stars and moon and a bird sitting on a tree branch.

Gimson specialized in making ware in a series such as ‘The World’ and ‘Achievements of Notable Victorians.’ In February the partnership between Joseph Gimson Jr. and Thomas Wallis Gimson was dissolved and Thomas W. Gimson continued on his own account. At the time of bankruptcy of the business it was Thomas Wallis Gimson who was trading as Wallis Gimson & Co.
