Pitcher, 7 inches tall. Brown transfer. Rd. No indicates a registration date of 1885. There is no maker's mark, but the details around the pattern name and Rd. No. are identical to those used by Wallis Gimson & Co. This is a simple pattern with large chrysanthemums dominating the front of the pitcher. The reverse side features smaller chrysanthemum sprigs.
Gimson specialized in making ware in a series such as ‘The World’ and ‘Achievements of Notable Victorians.’ In February the partnership between Joseph Gimson Jr. and Thomas Wallis Gimson was dissolved and Thomas W. Gimson continued on his own account. At the time of bankruptcy of the business it was Thomas Wallis Gimson who was trading as Wallis Gimson & Co.
