Rupture emerged from grief and loss and marked a significant turning point in both how I paint and what I was beginning to explore through painting. At 12.5 feet in scale, the work became a physical act of release—not a resolution of grief, but an attempt to give form to an experience that could not be easily contained.
Created within the broader series HOLD/HELD, Rupture introduced a new relationship to scale, texture, and space. The painting became a pivot in my practice, leading directly into The Architecture of Becoming, where I began using fabric and other materials to explore how memory, emotion, and lived experience can be held within and extend beyond the painted surface.
