This is a tiny model of a home typical of San Francisco's Sunset neighborhood. It is made from mat board and varying papers, and some plastic, and cut and assembled delicately by hand.
My work in the Bay Area is a study of places and buildings through scale. I render large spaces and architecture as tiny scale models and paintings. This exploration invites the viewer to examine the subjects more closely. My work is derived from the understanding that the human eye sees differently than a camera, and that time spent physically in a space imbues the piece with an irreplaceable sense of place. I explore my surroundings and make gouache paintings on site, depicting the architecture and environments of the Bay Area. I draw from my training and experience in theatrical scenic design to create tiny (approximately 1:200 scale) models of San Francisco homes.
