This work is based off of quilts made by pioneer women traveling on the Oregon Trail, and they are an exploration of the unimaginable change that occurred as a result of those journeys. While the women who made these quilts fought to survive and protect their children, they also helped set a series of events into motion that wreaked havoc on Indigenous peoples and the environment. In this work I am seeking to understand how all humans are in some way on a journey of survival. We don't always see the impact of our collective actions because we are often so concerned with the present. I created these pieces using my own handmade paper, cyanotypes, woodcut prints, intaglio prints and eco prints.
