I make three dimensional art from paper and salvaged bits of consumer culture in order to critique the concept of “legacy” in our society. My provisional sculptures are inspired by dysfunctional family dynamics, the deterioration of compassion in our social contracts, and the snowballing climate crisis. I use handmade paper to give a withered and ghostly appearance to my recurring visual references to industrial chains and childhood paraphernalia. When combined, the material choices and symbolic forms evoke a range of melancholy concerning loss, memory, and connection. The work captures the distance I feel between the present, past, and future.
