Acquired at the 2014 Wekiva Paint Out -- Artists often choose to focus their painting on a small scene. This painting by Hai-Ou Hou is a great example. It was painted on the banks of the Wekiva River looking down at a set of rental kayaks. The first kayak is the real focus, not some far off tree or horizon line. Hai-Ou wants you to step into the kayak for a paddle, not look off into the distance. Her use of bright blue colors emphasize the river’s cool spring waters. And the contrasting orange makes the life preservers really pop!
