"'Blue & Yellow' is influenced by ‘Lovecraft Country’ and ‘Crimes of the Future.' I was captivated by their use of horror, science fiction, surrealism, and allegory to confront oppressive systems and delve into themes of identity and bodily autonomy. The works of Francis Bacon and Hyman Bloom have also played a significant role in shaping my artistic journey. While both artists explored identity, power, and surrealism through distorted and gory figures, I have chosen to emphasize connection over violence.
By openly depicting the figures' insides, I aim to convey vulnerability and emotional openness. The use of bright colors and neons further enhances the theme of connection. Additionally, the powerful depictions of women by Artemisia Gentileschi and the haunting atmosphere of Henry Fuseli's 'The Nightmare' have influenced my exploration of identity, power, and the unconventional representation of the body."
