"Transgenerational Trauma is the foundational theory for this work. It is defined as 'the transmission of historical oppression and its negative consequences across generations.' I examine this concept through several lenses including the absence of my father in my life as well as the absence of his father in his life. I also look at it through the historical and political context of the Japanese internment during WWII and think about the study of epigenetics and how trauma survival tactics and adaptations can be passed down from generation to generation."
