“My work centralizes on themes of gender and identity through formal applications across diverse media, including sculptural works, characterized self-portraiture, documentation, video, and poems. Through recent projects, the optics of identity are challenged in parallel to presentations of shifting states of self-hood through a queer lens. I predominantly work with the LGBTQ+ community in my mission to assist and uplift my peers through representation, expression, and documentation. I am interested in exploring idealizations and abstractions of identity as they relate to our culture and experiences.”

About the artist

Brian Oldham

Brian Oldham (they/he) is a queer interdisciplinary artist and writer hailing from Southern California, where they live and work at an artist’s collective. Oldham completed a B.F.A. from CSUF with a concentration in Design, and has since worked as a freelance artist / photographer. Their work has been published and exhibited internationally- (Milk Studios- NY, Galerie Joseph St. Martin- Paris, Never Apart- Montreal, among others). Recent projects, “Changing Faces With The Certainty of a Brand New God”, “Systems of Feeling”, "The Artist is For Sale" have addressed themes of gender, identity, artificial intelligence, mediation, consumption, and digital narcissism- as their work both expands and returns to portraiture.
