Sculpted Relief Mountains from Allison McGree

These Sculpted Relief Mountains are a mix of many things that I absolutely love. The beautiful mountains of Montana, the amazing texture of bas-relief, the brushstrokes of the impressionists, and the ability of light and shadow to transform artwork in each moment.

I created each piece with a mixture of drawing, sculpting, carving, and painting. I sketch each mountain first, and then I sculpt them with a modified plaster mix. In between layers, I also carve into the work before I add color.

Sculpted relief allows me to bring the outdoors inside, to say more with less, and to dive deeper into the textures of the natural world. This artform can also be applied directly to a wall to create a large sculpted relief mural.
