MacWeeney captures this moment that provides insight into the wedding. The viewer can speculate about the circumstances of the wedding and the personalities of the bridesmaids, such as one being chaotic and the other more organized. During the year MacWeeney took this photograph, the Anglo-Irish treaty was signed, which granted the Republic of Ireland some power in the running of Northern Ireland ("Why Is Ireland Two Countries"). The two dresses mirror "the two Irelands," similar, but each possessing different identities and values. The Aran Islands are predominantly Catholic, so the setting of the photo is likely outside a Catholic Church.
