Depicting two women on the New York City subway, Alen Mac Weeny captures the beauty in the mundane realities of life in the crowded city through a simple juxtaposition. MacWeeney often employed the technique of splicing two images together, which he does in this photograph by merging the inside of the subway car and the waiting platform to create an initial disorienting effect on the viewer. Initially not knowing where the women are, he recreates the feeling of the confusing and disorienting nature of the city through the juxtaposition of two women navigating everyday life.
