Bouquet is an arresting swirl of color and texture. Thrash’s bold brushstrokes animate bright yellows, neutral browns, dark blues, and green stripes as they arc toward the edges of the painting. The back of the canvas board, however, is just as interesting. It reveals that Thrash himself named the painting Bouquet and signed his name with an equally bold hand. Thrash may have painted Bouquet between 1959 and 1965 when he lived at the home address stamped in the upper left-hand corner.
