This original excavated solid shot version of the Civil War cannonball for the 12# field cannon. These solid shot balls were 3.62 inches across and were one of the most used and dependable projectiles of the Civil War. They would have been utilized to destroy enemy emplacements or fortifications. The solid iron ball could travel several miles at speeds averaging 250 mph and was designed to crush the Target upon impact.

There was no exploding charge in this type of Ball used heavily by both sides.

This one has a nice look with the light pitting from the years in the ground. It has been cleaned and coated for display and preservation.
