Oh Brisbane, why would you want to live anywhere else! We have sunshine, we have amazing outdoor spaces, we're a short drive to the pristine beaches of the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and we have Riverfire! An amazing night of "electrifying pyrotechnic displays in Australia, fired from multiple bridges, barges and city rooftops, with aerobatics from the Australian Defence Force." (Brisbane Festival website).
I think most would agree, the fireworks off the Story Bridge, one of Brisbane's most iconic landmarks, has the best display. My favourite part is where the fireworks drip from the bottom of the bridge, just like electrified honey - I love it! It has inspired me to create this abstract!
Whilst you won't see a realistic depiction of the Story Bridge in my artwork, I have referenced the steel beams from the structure of the bridge, the concrete pillars on both ends, the flowing river under the bridge, plus, of course, the explosion of fireworks in the sky.
The sky is a base of black with lashings of electric blue, aqua, pale blue, white and all the colours of the fireworks (including my favourite fluro pink). I've taken artistic license with the flowing river - it certainly isn't the realistic muddly brown - my river is a soothing blend of different aquas and pearlescent white. On the banks of the river, I have used a myriad of greens with highlights of salmon pink. Over the entire painting are fine details in bright and golden yellow, orange, fluro pink and white.
