On our property, I have three bird feeders - one for the fat cockatoos, a small one for the pigeons and a cute purple one for the lorikeet's and rosella's! I didn't purposelessly buy the feeders for the different birds, that's just how it worked out 😂 On a very rare occasion we see a Eastern Rosella and she was the inspiration behind this painting.
Rosie is full of glorious colours! Her head is a combination of deep burgundy, vibrant red, with several soft pinks. Her wings have intricate black blue linework with highlights of several warm yellows and orange. The tips of her wings are beautiful blues and aqua. Rosie's back and belly have highlights of yellows blending into bright greens. Plus, lots of other colours thrown into the mix as well.
Rosella Fun Fact: The Arnott's Rosella sits on a T-shaped perch and has been seen on thousands of tins and wrappers in it's over one hundred year history. It is a depiction of the phrase, 'Polly wants a cracker' and is said to be based on a Mexican parrot. (From https://www.backyardbuddies.org.au/backyard-buddies/rosellas)
