Devils Marbles are a collection of massive granite boulders strewn across a valley south of Tennant Creek. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit this amazing place on a high school trip many, many moons ago. I was reminded of this trip when a friend sent me a photo taken in the Northern Territory and it inspired me to create this painting.
The boulders (or marbles) are made up of a combination of Australian sienna, warm yellow, bronze with touches of reds, oranges and blues (plus other colours). The grass is swirls of lots of different greens/yellows with aqua and purple thrown in for good measure. There are also thick dabs of copper throughout the foliage. The sky has highlights of silver and magenta with a background of blues and aquas.
My style is all about strong contrasting colours, extreme perspectives and over-emphasizing certain aspects of the subject matter. Its what makes a truly unique artwork that would suit your home, office or even your workshop!
