Tina Alberni
Alberni is a semi-abstract, phygital artist. Layers of ideas, shapes, vibrant colors and symbolism coalesce in response to present day global imbalances.
MessageOver time, urban expansion surpasses cities and towns, engulfing the urban core composed of people and cultures that uphold them.
The figures' inner shapes reference urban development encroaching on life, habitats, and communities, leading to displacement and turmoil.
The intricately rendered symbols, resembling organized chaos, depict intersecting roads on a map, highlighting our interconnectedness and the necessity for harmonious coexistence. It aims to reflect the delicate nature and resilience of the Earth.
This piece intentionally remains unstretched, allowing the artwork to hang organically, without constraints or perfect flatness, granting both the work and the viewer the freedom to escape from it all. A few painted sections blur into a mix of colors, offering the viewer a respite from the encroachment of urbanization in our lives. There are still numerous untouched havens on Earth where urban development is distant, and people and culture thrive in close-knit communities in harmony with nature.
All is not lost. Vibrant colors are meant to evoke optimism amidst challenges. We are all in this together.
"Cities are the spaces where those without power get to make a history and a culture, thereby making their powerlessness complex. If the current large-scale urbanizing continues, we will lose this type of making that has given our cities their cosmopolitanism." _Saskia Sassen, The Guardian
